New Red-Band Trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives.

The film re-teams Refn with Drive collaborators Ryan Gosling and composer Cliff Martinez. Refn has described Only God Forgives as a continuation of the visual language and heightened emotions of Drive, which just makes this film all that more awesome.

It opens July 19th.

omg i peed myself a little bit.

Silent Hill: Revelations (2012)

imdb.com:When her father disappears, Heather Mason is drawn into a strange and terrifying alternate reality that holds answers to the horrific nightmares that have plagued her since childhood.

i forgot to blog about Silent Hill! watched it in 3D.
overall, i thought it was good. a little weird and comical with the monster fighting scene, but….it is Silent Hill. creepy factor was up there and it gave me anxiety! it kept reminding me of the scary parts in the game. no bueno.

The Perks of Being A Wallflower (2012)

imdb.com: An introvert freshman is taken under the wings of two seniors who welcome him to the real world.

i read this book a year or two ago and absolutely loved it. it is one of my favorite books ever.
this movie was just as good and although they had to cut a lot out, i feel that the movie still captured the feelings i had while reading the book.
i wish they had played more of the music that was in the book, but it was probably due to music licenses and whatnot. the casting was PERFECT. i loved all of them, but Logan Lerman definitely stood out. he was innocent Charlie in every sense of the word and you couldn’t help but love him.
Ezra Miller IS Patrick. the end.
loved it.

Magic Mike (2012)

imdb.com: A male stripper teaches a younger performer how to party, pick up women, and make easy money.

not really sure what to expect from this since all i knew about it was that it was a male stripper movie starring Channing Tatum. it was actually a really good movie. not a fan of male strippers, but it was entertaining. i also didn’t know it was a Steven Soderbergh movie, so that was interesting too. not a typical chick flick like you’d think.

Looper (2012)

imdb.com: In 2074, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent 30 years into the past, where a hired gun awaits. Someone like Joe, who one day learns the mob wants to ‘close the loop’ by transporting back Joe’s future self.

again, had no clue what this was about. my sister said it was good so i wanted to watch it. i knew JGL was in it, but i didn’t know they had to put make up on him to look like Bruce Willis. i was confused during most of it which was probably because i was multi-tasking while watching this and also because time travel stuff is confusing, but i really liked the movie overall. neat concept.

End of Watch (2012)

imdb.com: Two young officers are marked for death after confiscating a small cache of money and firearms from the members of a notorious cartel, during a routine traffic stop.

also wasn’t sure about this one. it was a good movie overall, but SUCH A BROMANCE story. i was convinced there was gonna be a twist plot and they would be gay. still convinced.

Sinister (2012)

imdb.com: Found footage helps a true-crime author realize how and why a family was murdered in his new home, though his discoveries put his entire family in the path of a supernatural entity.

didn’t really know what this movie was about. the opening scene sets the stage for you: disturbing. it did get pretty creepy when they introduce the “villain”. i was surprised at the ending. didn’t think they would go there, but they did. its nice seeing Ethan Hawke in a horror movie. a creepy and disturbing movie.

Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)

imdb.com: It has been five years since the disappearance of Katie and Hunter, and a suburban family witness strange events in their neighborhood when a woman and a mysterious child move in.

all of the PA movies have freaked me out. i think this one did a good job, but i still have questions. the best thing about this one was the girl Alex and her bf Ben. i loved them in the movie. i think the girl in PA3 did a great job acting as well. this is worth seeing if you’ve seen all of the previous ones already.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985)

imdb.com: A teenage boy is haunted in his dreams by Freddy Krueger who is out to possess him to continue his murdering in the real world.

this was an OK one. not my favorite, but it was entertaining.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)

imdb.com: Survivors of undead serial killer Freddy Krueger - who stalks his victims in their dreams - learn to take control of their own dreams in order to fight back.

this is my favorite one. Kincaid was the best and so funny.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988)

imdb.com: Freddy Krueger returns once again to terrorize the dreams of the remaining Dream Warriors, as well as those of a young woman who may know the way to defeat him for good.

i remembered bits and pieces of this one, but it didn’t keep my interest and i kinda fell asleep during it. the main girl was kind of annoying.

Mutants (2009)

there isn’t a plot summary on imdb, but it’s pretty much a French zombie movie kind of like 28 days later. i actually really liked this movie. i haven’t seen a good zombie movie in a while so i was pleased with this one. acting was solid, story was interesting and kept you wanting to see what was gonna happen. there were some scenes that i thought were kind of cheesy and not likely to happen, but were also sweet at the same time. overall a good zombie film.

W.E. (2011)

imdb.com: The affair between King Edward VIII and American divorcée Wallis Simpson, and a contemporary romance between a married woman and a Russian security guard.

my friend and i picked this randomly. at first we were so so so confused. it’s a dual story line that kind of parallels each other. but not. overall i liked the story, except it would’ve been better if they just concentrated on King Edward VIII and Wallis. they switched back and forth so much and so quickly that you didn’t know what was happening. it was directed by Madonna. it seemed to be a movie that she tried so hard to be really ‘artsy’ in. no, Madonna, NO.

The Woman (2011)

imdb.com: When a successful country lawyer captures and attempts to “civilize” the last remaining member of a violent clan that has roamed the Northeast coast for decades, he puts the lives of his family in jeopardy.

not what i expected at all. i was thinking ok they find this animal-lady and try to help her and she escapes and violently destroys them all making it a ‘horror’ movie. nope. it’s more of a movie about the dark sides of people, feminism, and misandry. very weird.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

imdb.com: In the dreams of his victims, a spectral child murderer stalks the children of the members of the lynch mob that killed him.

i’ve seen this a couple of times already, but wanted to have a horror movie marathon. i liked this movie. very 80’s. a good classic horror with lots of blood and suspense. and a young Johnny Depp!

The Awakening (2011)

imdb.com: In 1921, England is overwhelmed by the loss and grief of World War I. Hoax exposer Florence Cathcart visits a boarding school to explain sightings of a child ghost. Everything she believes unravels as the ‘missing’ begin to show themselves.

picked this randomly last week based off the number of stars it got. i didn’t really know what it was about except that it was paranormal. the main actress was very annoying. Imelda Staunton was great in it and had no idea Bran from GoT was in this! i love Bran! overall, the story was ok. not really scary, but some creepy moments. i was kind of confused at the end. i guess you could compare it to The Others.

The Shrine (2010)

imdb.com: A group of young journalists investigate a cult said to practice human sacrifice, but their ambitious ways may lead them to becoming the cult’s next victims.

this movie was on my ‘horror movies to watch’ list for a while and i finally decided to watch it. i had no idea what it was about. i didn’t like the main actress. she was an annoying character that was obviously leading everyone else into trouble. it was actually kind of boring until it got gory and wasn’t making much sense. a few scary scenes and the last 30 mins or so really creeped me out. definitely worth a watch if you want something with a good scare. it’s better to watch it without knowing what the story is.

Thale (2012)

imdb.com: “Thale” is a feature film based on a mythical character in Nordic folklore called the “huldra”. According to the myth a huldra is a beautiful creature with female attributes living deep in the woods. It is said that it seduces men that works in the woods by humming a beautiful song, and they never return to their village. You can recognize a huldra by its cow tail.

this was also on my list for a while too. it wasn’t what i was expecting. interesting though, i like stories about mythical creatures. not scary at all, more curious than anything.

[REC]3 Genesis (2012)

imdb.com: A couple’s wedding day turns into a horrific events as some of the guests start showing signs of a strange illness.

i’m gonna be honest and say that i didn’t really finish watching the movie because i fell asleep lol. it was good from what i did watch though. same premise as the other REC movies. i would like to finish watching it and then i’ll update this ‘review’.

The Sentinel (1977)

imdb.com: Not ready for marriage, a fashion model moves into an unbelievably nice Brooklyn Heights apartment, where scary occurrences turn into a much more frightening turn of events.

horror movies from the 70s-80s are never really ‘scary’, they’re more creepy than anything. this one was a little weird, but once you finish the movie, you understand why its a horror movie. i did enjoy the makeup and the actors did a great job being a bunch of weirdos.

Bernie (2011)

imdb.com: In small-town Texas, the local mortician strikes up a friendship with a wealthy widow, though when he kills her, he goes to great lengths to create the illusion that she’s alive.

didn’t hear about this movie, but Dave told me about it. very interesting and a great movie. the best thing about it, is that it’s based off a real event and Jack Black got to meet the real Bernie Tiede.

Hellraiser (1987)

imdb.com: An unfaithful wife encounters the zombie of her dead lover, who’s being chased by demons after he escaped from their sado-masochistic Hell.

i don’t remember watching this as a kid except i do remember Pinhead and how much looking at him scared me. this is a pretty gory horror movie. really awesome classic.

Stake Land (2010)

imdb.com: Martin was a normal teenage boy before the country collapsed in an empty pit of economic and political disaster…

this movie has been on my ‘to watch’ list for a while now. finally saw it and finished it yesterday. a zombie meets vampire type of movie. i liked the way it was shot and also enjoyed the characters, story, plot, etc. a good watch.

Area 407 (2012)

imdb.com: Survivors of an airplane crash find themselves within the borders of a government testing area and pursued by predators.

found footage horror. the movie overall was just eh, it was entertaining. i called the ‘monster’ from the beginning. acting was stupid, i absolutely hated the young girls. what 15 year old acts like a 7 year old? really? it went downhill once you figured out the monster. the ending could’ve saved the movie, but it didn’t. oh well.

V/H/S (2012)

imdb.com: When a group of misfits is hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house and acquire a rare VHS tape, they discover more found footage than they bargained for.

heard about this through a horror blog/youtube channel and it looked pretty good. it’s another found footage, but more of a short stories kind of thing. some of them are really interesting and i love that they explored all kinds of ‘horror’ genres the way that they did. i had some questions, but it’s really left up to the viewer to interpret. overall a good watch. fun for halloween!

Jiro Dreams of Sushi (2011)

imdb.com: A documentary on 85-year-old sushi master Jiro Ono, his business in the basement of a Tokyo office building, and his relationship with his son and eventual heir, Yoshikazu.

been wanting to see this for a while and finally got around to it Saturday morning. i have to say, when a documentary is made well, it’s a pretty damn good movie to watch. while this was informative and interesting to watch, it was also very very inspiring. definitely a must see for people who love sushi or if you need to watch something to inspire your passions.

Paranorman (2012)

imdb.com: A misunderstood boy who can speak with the dead, takes on ghosts, zombies and grown-ups to save his town from a centuries-old curse.

when i first saw the trailer, i thought it was gonna be awesome and couldn’t wait to see it. the movie itself was okay. it wasn’t anything great. the animation was awesome, the music was really enjoyable and the lesson for kids was a plus. however, i think my expectations were a little too high. at a point, i got bored and the jokes weren’t funny. the voice acting was great and i didn’t realize there were so many recognizable people. it’s worth the watch, but i would wait for it to go on dvd or online or something.

Mysterious Skin (2004)

imdb.com: A teenage hustler and a young man obsessed with alien abductions cross paths, together discovering a horrible, liberating truth.

i had a JGL marathon a while back and i think this was the only movie i didn’t get around to watching. it’s a pretty disturbing movie about prostitution and child sex abuse. JGL was great. so was Michelle Trachtenberg and i was never a huge fan of her. and i really think the casting for this was perfect. i also really enjoyed the camerawork and narration. overall a good drama.

The Tall Man (2012)

imdb.com: When her child goes missing, a mother looks to unravel the legend of the Tall Man, an entity who allegedly abducts children.

picked this randomly from Netflix while looking for a new horror movie. i recently came across the whole “Slenderman” thing online and thought that this movie was based on that. one thing is for sure about this movie, there’s a million twists and when you think you have it figured out, something else happens. to be honest, once it ended, i was so confused. i didn’t know what really happened and i had a lot of questions. i went online to see all these high ratings for it and then found out it was directed by Pascal Laugier who also did Martyrs (one of my fave new French extremity horror movies). then it kinda made sense as to why i was so confused. this is one of those movies that leaves you thinking even after it’s over. Jessica Biel was okay in this movie. i’m not a huge fan of her, but she was tolerable. not scary at all, more like drama/thriller/mystery.

Total Recall (2012)

imdb.com: A factory worker, Douglas Quaid, begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Rekall - a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led - goes wrong and he finds himself on the run.

had too much JB going on in a short amount of time, but that’s ok. she was ok in this movie. i also don’t like Colin Farrell either, but again, was tolerable. freakin Kate Beckinsale, okay, she’s pretty and all, but wtf was up with her over-the-top-i’m-such-a-badass acting?? wayyyyy too much for my taste. she just became annoying. also, how was it that the whole time, through explosions and serious fighting, that her hair and makeup was absolutely PERFECT??? there was a scene of her on the phone and she had glittery pink lipstick on. really? REALLY? i got upset. lol anyway, i thought the movie was entertaining, but nothing amazing.

The Bourne Legacy (2012)

imdb.com: An expansion of the universe from Robert Ludlum’s novels, centered on a new hero whose stakes have been triggered by the events of the previous three films.

i only really wanted to see this because Edward Norton is in it. period. i thought the movie was boring, nothing really happened, and there wasn’t enough action. acting was good though and i did like that they filmed in the Philippines. besides that and EN, i wouldn’t have watched it at all.

was i too harsh on these movies? lol but it was my honest opinion at least.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

imdb.com: Eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham’s finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy.

i’m just gonna say it. i was underwhelmed.
i thought the first 45 minutes of the movie were SOOOOO BORING and could’ve cut the movie time down to 2 hours. i also didn’t like the movie timing…for instance something that was going on over a span of 2-3 months was explained/shown in 10 minutes? i thought it was weird and felt like it was rushed.
acting was actually okay. i can’t stand Anne Hathaway, but she didn’t overdo it with Catwoman. thank god. Tom Hardy was cool as Bane, but why did they make him sound like that?? they obviously changed a lot of character stories—Bane was never in love with Talia and Bruce Wayne knew Talia while training under Ra’s al Ghul. so….wtf? lol whateverrr
JGL did a great job. i wasn’t sure who his character really was and didn’t think anything of it. i dismissed it as another made up thing, but when you finally see what’s going on….another story mix-up! it’s okay though.
overall it was a good, entertaining movie. it just didn’t blow me away.
and i liked The Dark Knight better.

Brave (2012)

imdb.com: Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.

i was so excited to see this film, mostly because of La Luna. THAT little gem was so adorable. pure genius!
anyway, i actually wasn’t a huge fan of this movie. it was a good movie, but there was something about it that didn’t do it for me. i did love the animation and the voice acting of Kelly Macdonald. i did not like the character of Merida. sure she was adventurous and “brave”, but i thought she was just another annoying horrible kid that took her mom for granted. maybe i’m taking it personally, but i hate characters that are like that.
i loved her father, Angus, and her little brothers, but i liked them more as the baby bears. and her mother! oh goodness, she was adorable as the bear trying to remain the queen haha.

Ted (2012)

imdb.com: As the result of a childhood wish, John Bennett’s teddy bear, Ted, came to life and has been by John’s side ever since - a friendship that’s tested when Lori, John’s girlfriend of four years, wants more from their relationship.

i liked this a lot more than i thought i was going to. i’m not a huge fan of Family Guy or Seth McFarlane, but i love Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis.
this was a cute movie and it was actually pretty funny. i didn’t like that Mila was a typical girl, but that’s ok. lol
